Well, the good old USA doesn’t have the monopoly on road work. Saturday when I crossed the border, the Queen Elizabeth Way had quite a bit of construction going on. Today, I left Dundas for home and the 401 had a lot of “remedial” road work going on as well. Ottawa is not to be left out — construction on Montreal Rd., Walkley Rd., Ogilvie Rd., still going on out Riverside Dr. on the way to Manotick, Bank Street between Echo Drive and Holmwood Avenue, and Bank Street between Alta Vista Drive to Riverside Road, just to name a few I’ve encountered today.
First, thing was to stop by the school to find out what day I should show up to volunteer in the Library. Thursday will be my day starting next week. I had a parcel waiting for me from Scholastic. I had no idea what it could be — I was sure I had received everything that was ordered last June. Well, it turned out to be a retirement gift!! A very nice bag and 2 books: a Pilates book and a hard cover about Queen Elizabeth II! Wow!! Very nice.
Second, I unloaded the car. I didn’t actually time it but I’m sure it took close to an hour. Then I went across to my neighbour’s who has been taking care of my mail for the past 5 weeks and took her a little gift from Durango, Colorado which I’m happy to say she loved. She got me all caught up about what’s been going on here at the Condo. Glad I was away!!
Called my friend who’s been taking care of Budge. She invited me to dinner and I picked up some garlic bread to go with her vegetarian lasagna and salad. We had a great time catching up and Budge doesn’t seem to be too ticked off with me. He, too, is now home safe and sound. Several parcels have arrived from Amazon: The Wizard of Oz which I’ve never seen even though I’m familiar with the music and the premise and even some quotes from it, American Legends: Quiet Please, There’s A Lady On Stage — Judy Garland, Judy, Frank, & Dean — Once in a Lifetime a television special, Life with Judy Garland — Me and My Shadows, and a book, Get Happy by Gerald Clarke. I’m starting with American Legends tonight and will keep you appraised of what I think of each one.
Tomorrow: some errands (groceries, gas, etc.), a load or two of wash, a trip to Apple downtown to see if I can get my Macbook Pro fixed, some medical appointments to attend or confirm and some plans to make for talking to grade 5 and 6 classes about primary and secondary sources and archaeology. Been thinking about that one quite a bit while I’ve been on the road!
