Finally decided about the tech part of my trip. I’ve bought an iPad case called Survivor by Griffin Technology. It will slide into my MacBook sleeve along with my Cocoon (see yesterday’s blog) and should stand up to anything the desert can give including keeping the dust out of the portals.
It comes in a number of colours as you can see in the picture and gives access to all the buttons and ports without letting any of the elements in. (You can also get them for your iPhone and iPod.) They’re advertised as being up to or exceeding army standards. I think this will be a good solution for the dig and I will use my camera when sightseeing. I still need to retrieve the hard drive from my defunct MacBook Pro to transfer some of my documents to my old MacBook and learn about how to use the new camera. I’ve put some new camera utilities on my iPad and I think they will help me get great pictures. I’ll report on theses products as I go along. Six days to go until I’m on the road!
